The influence of the tsampouna bagpipe on the lyra and the violin: searching for the “heart” of the Aegean music

Where can we identify the common point between the Greek bagpipe and the a fiddle? What may be the “backbone” of Aegean music and how it may act as a link between musical instruments? And, at the same time, how is it that an instrument threatened with extinction manages to be “reincarnated” through another instrument?

These are the questions that I shall try to answer in my paper, examining the influence of the tsampouna bagpipe on the lyra and the violin of the Aegean in terms of technique, repertoire and aesthetics. The presentation is supported by recorded and video examples.

Η επιρροή της τσαμπούνας στη λύρα και το βιολί: αναζητώντας την «καρδιά» των μουσικών του Αιγαίου.

Τι κοινό μπορεί να έχουν ένας άσκαυλος κι ένα όργανο με δοξάρι; Ποια μπορεί να είναι η «ραχοκοκαλιά» των μουσικών του Αιγαίου και πώς αυτή λειτουργεί ως συνδετικός κρίκος ανάμεσα σ τα μουσικά όργανα; Και ακόμη, πώς ένα όργανο που απειλείται με εξαφάνιση κατορθώνει να «μετεμψυχώνεται» μέσα από κάποιο άλλο;

Στην εισήγηση αυτή επιχειρώ να απαντήσω στα παραπάνω ερωτήματα εξετάζοντας την επίδραση της τεχνικής, του ρεπερτορίου και της αισθητικής της τσαμπούνας, στη λύρα και το βιολί στο Αιγαίο. Η παρουσίαση πλαισιώνεται με ηχογραφημένα και βιντεοσκοπημένα παραδείγματα.
