An International Weekend Conference

“The Role of the Donkey and Mule in the Culture of the Mediterranean

Island of Hydra

We do not organise accommodation for people attending Conferences of the Free University on Hydra, except in special cases. We have found that people generally prefer to organise their own accommodation to fit their own needs.

The best way to find a room on the island is to arrive and explore. The island has plenty of small hotels and pensions. Most are within 5 minutes’ walk from the port. In October there will be many rooms available, so it will be easy to find a room when you arrive.

But if you prefer to book in advance, you will find full information on the website run by local resident Kelsey Edwards. It lists various of the island's hotels and pensions, together with prices etc.

The site can be accessed at:

The owners of the EROFILI PENSION give favourable prices for our conference attendees, so if you are booking with them, mention the Donkey Conference.

If you would like to extend your stay, please note that the following weekend (19-21 October) will be the Hydra Rebetiko Conference. Seminars on Greek music, open-air performances, films, shadow-puppet theatre and the best party in the Mediterranean!
