a website dedicated
to the work of
"IMMANUELLO
ROMANO, JEWISH POET OF ROME
c.1261 – c.1332"
The poet of the Machberot
[“Conversation Pieces”], the author of Ha-Tofet
ve-ha-Eden [“Hell and Heaven”] and an accomplished sonneteer in both Hebrew
and Italian. His work is "unrivalled for its hilarious
word-play and agile manipulations of the Hebrew language".
This site is part
of a developing programme of work on Immanuello Romano, and on the interaction
between Jewish, Arabic and Christian poetics in the Middle
Ages.
